Mr. Max Shien Heisler was born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 15th, 1907, within a Jewish family of Polish background, who emigrated at the beginning of the Century, overwhelmed by poverty and the extreme racism in Poland.
In 1924 when he was 17 years old, he traveled to Mexico to sell a remaining lot of goods from his father’s business.
He sold most of his products when he arrived to Monterrey, and he continued his journey through Tampico, San Luis Potosí until he arrived at Mexico City.
For Mr. Max, education was an urgent need in Mexico and his philanthropic work began during the 40’s with the construction of Secondary School “Albert Einstein”, located in Mexico-Tacuba Avenue in Mexico City.
He financed and contributed to the construction of hospitals, nursing homes, and a solar and wind power plant in the State of Mexico.
In 1966, his great love for Mexico made him deserving of the “Águila Azteca” award, the highest distinction granted to foreigners in Mexico, for his recognized services provided to the Mexican country and humanity.
In 1999, together with great friends, Mr. Max founded “Unión de Empresarios para la Tecnología en la Educación”, whose mission was to improve education quality and equity in Mexico.
Mr. Max Shein died when he was 93 years old on November 29th, 2000.
